Description: Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act requires the health center board of directors to exercise a myriad of responsibilities in overseeing the direction and operation of the health center organization. To be effective, however, all of these duties must be afforded adequate time, preparation and attention, while at the same time recognizing that board members are busy people with jobs and activities far beyond the reach of the health center. This webinar explores the development and implementation of an annual board work plan that outlines the expectations for and specific responsibilities of the board throughout the year and evenly distributes them to ensure that requirements are satisfied in a timely and unhurried manner, thus maximizing efficiency while minimizing "crises." Participants will discuss the key steps in creating the work plan, including the types of reports and reviews it should include.
Upon completing this webinar, participants will:
1. Understand the Board’s responsibilities regarding the oversight of the health center’s direction and operation.
2. Understand the reasons for developing an annual work-plan and the steps to be taken.
3. Be able to identify specific items to include in the work-plan and how to determine the amount of time needed for each.

Description: Much of what a board needs in order to make informed and well-considered decisions depend on work done outside of board meetings. Committees and task forces support their boards by collecting and evaluating information, by considering options and making recommendations for action. When they work well, they are a god-send. When they don’t, they create a drag on the board’s effectiveness.
